LIVE Learning @ St Hilda’s
LIVE Learning @ St Hilda’s allows the convergence of the Blackboard learning management system and integrated presentation technologies, including interactive whiteboards, iPods, Flash memory and podcasting. The School has invested in technology at all levels to ensure that our girls are confident users of technology in the rapidly changing educational environment.
LIVEnet provides access to class curriculum materials from anywhere in the School, at home or from any Internet connection. Interactive whiteboards are used in the Junior, Middle and Senior Schools to create a more interactive and challenging learning environment. RSS distribution allows for podcasts developed by staff and students to be available to the School community.
Wireless ‘hotspots’ around the School allow students to access the Internet and classroom resources from mobile computing devices such as laptops.
Boarders may set up their own desktop or laptop computers in their personal areas. St Hilda’s continually investigates leading edge technology with a view to leveraging educational advantages for students while maintaining the principles espoused within the LIVE Learning philosophy.
Learning-to-Learn
From Years 7 to 11, students are also engaging in the Learning-to-Learn program which provides the students with overt instruction of learning skills such as time-management, organisation, study and thinking skills and thinking tools. This program seeks to provide the girls with skills, strategies and attitude towards successful engagement and achievement in their learning.
Learning Enhancement
Enhancement of Student Learning is managed by the Learning Enhancement department. Learning Enhancement staff are responsible for arranging for testing of students and development of appropriate programs for students with learning difficulties, including individual education programs for students eligible for special funding. The Learning Enhancement department also takes responsibility for providing English as a Second Language (ESL) support.
Careers Education
Young people growing up in today's world may need to undergo a number of changes in career during their working lives. In choosing their first career, students need careful guidance. There is a program of careers guidance in the School led by the Careers Consultant. This includes opportunities for work experience, Senior Education and Training (SET) Plans discussions, vocational training pathways and tertiary entrance advice.
