Curriculum Excellence - Senior School

The Senior School (Years 10 to 12)

The senior phase of learning develops the skills students have learned in the Middle School. Students are encouraged to focus on doing their best in their academic program and to participate in the co-curricular offerings of the School in order to give balance in their life. All students participate in Chapel and in Religious Education and Values studies. Opportunities to develop leadership skills exist in each year level of senior schooling and, while all students are expected to role model servant leadership, specific leadership roles range from Form Captain to School Captain.

In Year 10, all students study English, Mathematics, History, Science, participate in Health and Physical Education. They also choose three electives. Career education in Year 10 develops students’ awareness of future pathways in helping to achieve their goals. All Year 10 students participate in the Outdoor Education experience at the end of Term 1 and this encourages resilience, creativity, problem solving, group cohesion and leadership.

In Years 11 and 12 students study, as core subjects, English (or English Communication) and Mathematics (Pre-vocational Mathematics, Mathematics A or B) and also choose four electives from the extended list below. However, subjects offered are subject to demand. At this stage of their schooling, students choose subjects that suit their skills and abilities and which complement their future goals. Individual students may follow a pathway that includes vocational training as either a stand alone subject, embedded in an Authority subject, through a school-based traineeship or through a private provider. The subject booklet, which can be downloaded here, gives more detail.

At the end of Year 12, students will receive a Senior Statement listing all their learning during the senior phase of learning. Students who achieve a significant amount of learning at a set standard of achievement and meet literacy and numeracy requirements will be eligible for a Queensland Certificate of Education. Students who complete five Authority subjects, three of which are studied for four semesters, and sit for the Queensland Core Skills Test, will be eligible for an Overall Position and relevant Field Positions.

Note: Courses provided by Registered Training Organisations other than the School are not available to Full-fee Paying Overseas Students.
