Pre-Preparatory

In the Pre-Preparatory (Pre-Prep) year St Hilda’s aims to provide a stimulating and caring environment for young girls and their families. We believe that the relationships that are nurtured in the Pre-Prep year provide our children with the opportunity to develop a genuine sense of belonging.

Children enrolled in Pre-Prep are able to attend either on a five day fortnight or a five day weekly basis. Approximately two thirds of the Pre-Prep enrolment participates in the full time program.

The Pre-Prep program offers students a variety of developmentally, socially and culturally appropriate experiences. The weekly program is flexible and consists of a broad range of learning experiences including:

  • Pre-literacy and numeracy activities
  • Indoor craft and play based activities
  • Outdoor play – free and structured
  • Gross and fine motor activities – physical education, swimming, gymnastics
  • Music
  • French
  • Library
  • Religious Education
  • Visual Art

The structure of the day allows for a 20 minute rest/relaxation period.

A portfolio is maintained for each student during the year. This portfolio provides parents with a lasting memento of their daughter’s first year at St Hilda’s.

Parents are able to obtain daily information, including a photo slideshow, about the happenings in Pre-Prep by accessing Blackboard on the St Hilda’s web site. A weekly newsletter outlining special events, changes to routines and incursions is also distributed.

Each morning Pre-Prep staff welcome the assistance of one parent in each of our three classrooms. Parents help in a variety of ways including assisting with the preparation of food and the distribution and collection of classroom resources. Participation in this way enables parents to gain an insight into the daily program and to observe their child's participation.
