![]() Junior School Curriculum 'Adventure Education'At St Hilda’s we want our Junior School students to become confident and independent learners who are able to meet the challenges new learning presents. We aim to support this growth through exposure to a broad based curriculum that encompasses core subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science and SOSE whilst at the same time offering experiences in Art, Drama, Music, French, Japanese and Physical Education.
Effort brings its own reward is the cornerstone on which successful participation in the Junior School is based. Staff teach our students and refer often in the course of a semester to the very important concept of earning through endeavour. We encourage the students to take responsibility for their learning and to ask the question, What can I do? rather than, Why didn’t I get... Whilst it may appear that there is very little difference the reality is that by asking what rather than why we are encouraging our students to reflect on their own learning and effort and to take responsibility for the outcomes.
Classroom learning experiences help to promote the confidence in our students to articulate their learning, to express their point of view and to contribute in discussion in a meaningful and mature manner. Opportunities to participate in drama presentations, public speaking and class and whole school events nurture these skills from Prep to Year 6.
