Academic Support

The Boarding School has fully supervised Prep or study times as well as after school access to the Library and computer resources. Boarders have internet connection in their personal study areas.

Formal Prep Conditions

Prep is an integral part of each boarder's progam.  The girls use the time to complete homework, for general revision, completion of assignments and preparation for tests and assessments.  Boarding Staff supervise formal prep times ensuring there is a quiet atmosphere conducive to study.  Formal Prep operates before and after dinner on Monday through Thursdays.  With effective use of these structured preps to meet homework, assignment and exam revision needs, older boarders should not regularly have to work past 10pm.  Aiming to be in bed by this time will enable the girls to get eight to nine hours sleep Monday to Thursday.

Venues for Study

All boarders are able to access school facilities, including specialist music rooms and library 'after hours'. A wireless network system is available in each Boarding House Common Room, while all boarders have internet access available to them from their private study area in their own room.  Darragh girls work independently in their own rooms or in the Horton Computer Rooms.  Whitby girls prep in the Horton Library.  McCulloch girls are able to prep in the House or in the Horton Computer Rooms, located in the boarding precinct.

Additional Assistance provided by the School

St Hilda's Teaching Staff from across the Faculties provide academic support by tutoring the boarders during their prep time before dinner each Monday - Thursday.

After-school Tutorials are available to all students at no extra cost.  Individual teachers are always willing to assist girls who ask for help.  If any girls think she needs help she should speak to her teacher or Day School Head of Year.  Girls are encouraged to speak with their teacher as soon as they have concerns.  The Learning Enhancement Coordinator is always willing to help girls who need support or extension.

Provided by Outside Tutors

Our Boarding Adminstration are able to organize Tutors (with blue card approved to work with children) to visit this campus to provide boarding students with academic support.  Tutoring by an external tutor is at the parent's expense.
