Welcome from the Head of Senior School
Welcome to the Senior School of St Hilda’s. Some 100 years of tradition is being built upon with innovation and creativity to educate young women in Years 10, 11 and 12. The senior years of schooling present students with exciting academic, sporting, cultural and social opportunities through which they can develop their individual interests and strengths.
Year 10 is the beginning of Senior Schooling at St Hilda's School. The students complete their courses of study commenced in the Middle School and become actively involved in planning their options for the senior phase of learning. The Year 10 Retreat is the apex of outdoor education at St Hilda's. While there is physical challenge, the camp also provides opportunities for the girls to reflect on their lives, the directions in which they are moving and their dreams for the future. Year 10 students delight in the increasing responsibilites for themselves and their learning. The girls also have wider opportunities to make international connections through the growing diversity amongst their classmates and St Hilda's Exchange program.
In Years 11 and 12, students work towards their Queensland Certificate of Education and tertiary entrance. A wide selection of rigorous academic subjects, vocationally-focused subjects and traineeships allow students to choose courses that will lead them along their own pathway to the future, be it university or otherwise.
While the senior years are demanding, students are always encouraged to lead balanced and interesting lives. It is expected that the girls involve themselves in at least one co-curricular activity, be it sporting or cultural – each term. Indeed, experience shows that successful students are usually involved in many activities. All girls have opportunities to develop their leadership potential through courses offered at the School. The years are punctuated by the enjoyment of the Mother-Daughter Luncheon, the Year 11 Presentation Ball, the Year 12 Formal and other social events.
The Senior School cohort is characterized by inclusivity, willingness to problem solve, an appreciation of diversity, diligence, confidence and creativity. The girls' teachers work to imbue them with a love of learning, a sense of their own spirituality and an understanding of the value of effort. Please feel welcome to contact us for further information.
