Outdoor Education is introduced in the Preparatory years as part of on-campus activities andxcursions. Camps, which are central to Outdoor Education, are compulsory for students from Years 3 to 10. Outdoor Education exposes students to new challenges and places. The range of programs enables the girls to explore and develop through team and individual experiences where they inevitably learn more about themselves. Students learn they can push themselves physically more than they thought and take important steps towards independence. Students are prepared for their Outdoor Education experiences through Health and Physical Education programs. This approach enables the girls to prepare themselves physically and mentally for many of the challenges and understand the importance of working well in teams.
The locations, facilities and programs are selected with the aims of increasing the students’ understanding of their natural environment and introducing a range of activities. The Outdoor Education environments include cabin sites in nearby rural and mountainous areas, lakeside and beachside camping grounds, National Parks and bushland reserves.
The activities may vary from an overnight camp with cabin accommodation to a week-long expedition through a National Park. Girls may be challenged by abseiling, canoeing, mountain biking, bush walking, sailing, archery, rock-climbing and team initiative games, as well as preparing and serving meals. These experiences give the girls the opportunity to acquire new skills, demonstrate teamwork and enhance self-confidence.
