STATE SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Queensland State Swimming Championships were held in December at Chandler and we congratulate all athletes who qualified for the event. A special mention to the following girls on their outstanding results:
Special mention to Julia Kater and Georgie Roper on setting Olympic Qualifying times in the meet.
QUEENSLAND JUNIOR TRACK CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS
Ava Robbins (Year 4) is a new member of the Athena Program in 2020. Ava is a track cyclist who competes with the Gold Coast Cycling Club. Recently, Ava competed in the Junior Track Cycling State Championships at the Anna Meares Velodrome in Brisbane where she earned three Gold Medals – in the 200m, 500m time trial and the Scratch Race for Under 11 year old girls. In the 500m time trial, Ava also broke the record which had been held for six years. It seems that cycling talent runs in the family, as Ava’s mum Jacqui also broke a record in the Masters Division of the same competition. Congratulations to both Ava and Jacqui!
EQUESTRIAN NATIONAL TITLES
Congratulations to Paige Sinnamon (and her horse, Calton Park!) who placed 2nd in the Equestrian Australia Show Horse Nationals in Melbourne in December.
