Congratulations to Sarah Bigg on winning the KDV Under 16 Mixed Singles Tournament recently.

Griffith University Sports College Open House

Griffith University runs a Sports College Program very similar to the Athena Program which caters for elite athletes studying at Griffith University. Naomi McCarthy, Manager of the Program, has visited and conducted information sessions regarding the program in the past and invites any interested athletes considering Griffith University for future study to attend their Virtual Open House. Details are below:

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-6pm until Thursday 1 October

Q: What is your greatest sporting moment?
A: Being a premiership captain and holding up the cup.

Q What is your favourite recovery meal?
A: Tuna, rice & quinoa with avocado

Q: What is your ambition?
A: To play AFLW

Q: How did you get involved in your sport?
A: I grew up watching it as a child, went to a game and trial training session and fell in love with the game

Q: How long have you been training for?
A: 6 years

Q: Who is your hero and why?
A: Erin Phillips because she works hard, doesn’t make excuses, is a team player and is a phenomenal athlete

Q: What do you like to do in your down time to relax?
A: I love to play guitar and piano and sing along to the songs I play

Q: A funny fact about you!
A: I have lived in three different states of Australia: VIC, NSW, QLD

Q: What is your greatest sporting moment?
A: Runner up at Nationals

A: Berry smoothie

Q: What is your ambition?
A: To reach high levels in my sport

Q: How did you get involved in my sport?
A: I grew up around it

Q: How long have you been training for?
A: My whole life

Q: Who is your hero and why?
A: Stinna Kaastrup, because she rides at the Paralympics and has no arms or legs

Q: What do you like to do in your down time to relax?
A: Sleep or go for a trail ride

Q: What is your greatest sporting moment?
A: Competing at the National Gymnastics Championships

Q What is your favourite recovery meal / drink?
A: Chocolate milk

Q: What is your ambition?
A: To compete as a Senior International

Q How did you get involved in your sport?
A: Started at school in Pre-Prep and loved it so continued from there

Q How long have you been training for?
A: I did Kindy Gym from when I was 1 and started at Delta when I was 3 years old, so 11 years

Q: Who is your hero and why?
A: My parents because they drive me up to Brisbane every day for training and sacrifice a lot of things for me

Q: What do you like to do in your down time to relax?
A: I watch YouTube, Netflix or I have to do homework

Q: A funny fact about you!
A: I can move my ears

Q: What is your greatest sporting moment?
A: Winning the State U16 Triple Jump Championship, competing at Australian Show Horse Grand Nationals and competing at Australian National Athletics Titles

Q What is your favourite recovery meal / drink?
A: I only drink water for recovery and during training

Q: What is your ambition?
A: My aim is to place on the podium at Nationals Athletics and then my dream would be to go to the Olympics. My equestrian ambition is to win the Grand Champion Title at Show Horse Nationals.

Q How did you get involved in your sport?
A: I got involved with athletics at school and through my Mum. My equestrian interest also comes from my Mum.

Q How long have you been training for?
A: I have been training since Year 4 but only started triple jump training in Year 8. I started horse riding when I was 4 years old.

Q: Who is your hero and why? 
A: I love Sally Pearson. Although she is retired, she is an amazing athlete. She has had to face a lot of challenges through competing but always comes back stronger. Sharon and Peter Hannan, my coaches, are also my heroes. This is because they are both so dedicated to helping me become the best athlete I can possibly be. I am lucky to have International level coaches.

Q: What do you like to do in your down time to relax?
A: I like to go out on the boat, play with my dog and cat and hang out with my ponies.

Q: A funny fact about you!
A: I am usually the shortest competitor in my athletics age group
