Commonwealth Games 2018 Silver Medallist and soon to be Olympic Gymnast Georgia Godwin time with our Athena students late last term. She shared her sporting journey which saw her commence gymnastics as a three year old on the Gold Coast at the local PCYC before being identified to be included in the International Gymnastics Program in Brisbane. Georgia then moved to Brisbane with her mother for training. Georgia shared sacrifices she and her family had made, how she handled difficult moments in her sporting career, including injury and mental blocks and how she worked back from these moments, as well as career highs including Commonwealth Games success and selection for the Tokyo Olympics. Her one piece of advice for all student athletes was to ensure they spent time completing their rehabilitation fully during injury to ensure that their bodies fully recovered for future performances.
Georgia also spent time meeting and greeting the Junior School students who presented her with letters, drawings and a small koala to wish her well in the upcoming Olympic Games. We look forward to cheering Georgia on!
