The period of lockdown has meant no sporting or musical activities since March. It has been difficult for our passionate athletes and musicians to not be able to participate in their chosen sport or activity. Many of our athletes have found other ways to stay active and keep fit for their return to sport, which we can see is on the horizon.

TIPS FOR RETURNING TO TRAINING AFTER LOCKDOWN

Returning to training after a considerable amount of time off will be a challenge and it is strongly recommended that athletes take the return to training slowly, with a gradual increase in training time and intensity in order to protect themselves from injury and illness. Allowing plenty of time for recovery between sessions and ensuring good nutrition and sleep are also vital.

Eating well will also help to boost your immunity at this time. Some foods which boost the immune system include:

  • Citrus fruits – grapefruit, oranges, lemons, limes are all high in Vitamin C
  • Broccoli – supercharged with vitamins and antioxidants
  • Garlic
  • Ginger
  • Spinach – rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants and beta carotene which may increase infection-fighting ability
  • Yoghurt – good source of Vitamin D which regulates the immune system
  • Almonds
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Avocados
