The holidays were a busy time for many of our Athena students, with many competitions and events taking place.

STATE HONOURS ENSEMBLE PROGRAM

Stephanie Korff was selected to participate in the State Honours Ensemble Program during the holidays. Stephanie plays the Flute and enjoyed the opportunity the program offered to perform in the William Lovelock Orchestra. Along with her fellow attendees, Stephanie performed a range of challenging pieces which were designed to extend the participants’ muscial knowledge.

 

STATE ATHLETICS

Congratulations to Dior Scholz (Year 7) on her achievements in the recent ANQ Championships. Dior qualified for Nationals and achieved the following excellent results:

  • 100m Sprint – 2nd place
  • 200m Sprint – 1st place
  • High Jump – 1st place

STATE AFL DEVELOPMENT

Casey Wynne (Year 10) played in the Queensland State Development AFL Competition during the holidays. It was a successful carnival for Casey, who also had the opportunity to Captain the team during one of the games.

NATIONAL GYMNASTICS CLUBS CARNIVAL

Congratulations to Grace O’Reilly (Year 7), Luar Burt (Year 8) and Emma DeFazio (Year 9) who participated in the Nationals Clubs Carnival. This carnival is a team event, with clubs from around Australia involved in fierce competition.  Grace O’Reilly also competed in the Junior State Titles Level 6 division and we congratulate her on her results.

    • National Clubs Team Event: 5th Place – Beam, 7th Place – Bars, 8th – Overall
  • Luar Burt
    • National Clubs Team Event, Level 7: 4th Place – Vault, 7th place – Beam, 9th place – Floor and 9th place – Overall
  • Emma DeFazio
    • National Clubs Team Event, Level 8

TENNIS STATE AGE CHAMPIONSHIP

Congratulations to Alize Yarwood (Year 7) on placing 2nd in the Queensland Age Championships and 2nd in the Doubles at the Clay Court Championships held over the holidays. Alize also won the Bundaberg Age Championships in the singles and doubles event. We wish Alize well as she travels to Perth in a few weeks for the Grass Court Nationals and Bruce Cup.
