Triathlon Success

Congratulations to Harriett Irving (Year 10) who took out the 15-16 years Long Course Bribie Island Triathlon recently, and placed highly overall.

Athena Inspiring Women Series

The Athena Inspiring Women Series hosted Australian International Gymnasts Emma Nedov and Georgia-Rose Brown last Friday. Both athletes have represented Australia in international competition for 10 years. Emma was the World Cup Beam Gold Medalist in 2019 and Georgia-Rose is a Commonwealth Games and World Cup Medalist. Georgia-Rose is also a St Hilda’s Old Girl, having attended St Hilda’s School in Years 4 – 7. They shared their sporting journeys and offered great advice to our Athena students about managing schooling, injuries, social life with training and competition experiences.

Q: What is your greatest sporting moment?
A: Finishing 3rd in my SSRW final 

Q What is your favourite recovery meal and drink?
A: Spaghetti Bolognese + electrolytes

Q: What is your ambition?
A: To make nationals and place top 10.

Q: How did you get involved in your sport?
A: Through my coach

Q: How long have you been training for?
A: 8 years

Q: Who is your hero and why?
A: Gwen Jorgensen. After pursuing a successful career in triathlon. Gwen went on to have a boy and pursue a career in running, now dominating her field. Gwen proved that no matter your circumstances, you can achieve whatever you put your mind to.

Q: What do you like to do in your downtime to relax?
A: Surf and read

Q: What is your greatest sporting moment?
A: Winning the State U16 triple jump championship, competing at Australian Show Horse Grand Nationals and competing at Australian National Athletics Titles. I have also won medals at the Queensland Interschools State Skiing Championships and qualified for Nationals.

Q: What is your favourite recovery meal?
A: I only drink water for recovery and during training.

Q: What is your ambition?
A: My aim is to place on the podium at Nationals Athletics and then my dream would be to go to the Olympics. My equestrian ambition is to win the Grand Champion Title at Show Horse Nationals.

Q: How did you get involved in your sport?
A: I got involved with athletics at school and by my mum. My equestrian interest is from my mother also.

Q: How long have you been training for?
A: I have been training since Year 4 but only started triple jump training in Year 8. I started horse riding when I was 4.

Q: Who is my hero and why?
A: I love Sally Pearson. Although she is retired, she is an amazing athlete. She has had to face a lot of challenges through competing but always comes back stronger. Sharon and Peter Hannan, my coaches, are also my heroes. This is because they are both so dedicated to helping me become the best athlete I can possibly be. I am lucky to have International Level coaches.

Q: What do you like to do in your downtime to relax?
A: I like to go out on the boat, play with my dog and cat and hang out with my ponies.

Q: A funny fact about you?
A: I am usually the shortest competitor in my athletics age group.

Q: What is your greatest sporting moment?
A: Winning swimming events at Nationals.

Q: What is your favourite recovery Meal?
A: Açai bowl with granola and fruit.

Q: What is your ambition?
A: To become an Olympic swimmer and win gold medals.

Q: How did you get involved in your sport?
A: A coach saw me in learn to swim, told me that he wanted to help me achieve something in swimming and put me in his squad.

Q: How long have you been training for?
A: I train for about 2 hours each day, or sometimes a double session. I have been swimming and training for 2 and a half years now.

Q: Who is your hero and why?
A: Michael Phelps, a great inspiration and influencer for my sport.

Q: What do you like to do in your down time to relax?
A: Watch Netflix, go for a run, listen to music or have a nap.

Q: A funny fact about you?
A: I’m double jointed in my fingers, legs and tongue.
