Extra Curricular Activities

Our extensive co-curricular and extra-curricular program offers our girls a choice of a wide variety of activities after school hours on the school site.  Details of these extra-subjects offered are listed below.

Instrumental Music Tuition

Instrumental music tuition is offered in a small group or private lessons in the following musical instruments for 2022:

  • Years 2 to 12: Strings – Violin, Cello
  • Years 3 to 12: Piano
  • Years 5 to 12: Contemporary Keyboard, Organ, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, Drums/Percussion, Double Bass
  • Years 6 to 12: Guitar, Voice (Singing) and tuition are also available in Music Craft, Theory of Music and Musicianship.

Lessons will be scheduled during class time on a rotational basis at varying times each week.

Speech and Drama Tuition

Trinity College London is an international examining board offering a variety of examinations in communication and Drama related fields. Students can study a variety of disciplines and subjects such as Speech and Drama, Individual Acting Skills, Performing Arts, Communication Skills and Performing Text.

What are the benefits of studying Extra Speech and Drama?

This program aims to:

  • develop effective speech and communication skills
  • build self-confidence and self-esteem
  • encourage an appreciation and love of literature and the Arts
  • provide the student with an opportunity to participate in Drama where she can develop appropriate skills and talents
  • develop the whole person both personally and artistically
  • perform for a stage audience


Classes are conducted after school from 3:30 pm and are available for students from Year 4 through to Year 12. We offer two types of classes; individual and pairs.

Opportunities to perform

Students are encouraged to perform regularly to develop these skills. The program runs two twilight concerts a year as well as encourages the students to enter the Gold Coast Eisteddfod and the Somerset Young Performers Festival.

Pure Tennis Academy’s Junior Tennis Programs teach essential motor skills, which include agility, balance and co-ordination. They provide a range of tennis based activities and fun games, that all help to develop these skills, whilst teaching your child the fundamental aspects of tennis. Programs offered include:

Gold Coast Dance Program offers Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary and Acrobatics lessons in our Ballet Cabin. Club Netball

St Hilda’s has 10 teams ranging from Years 1 to 6. The girls play other schools or clubs in the district on Saturday mornings. There is an opportunity to plan tournaments throughout the year, and these girls will also be given the opportunity to be selected for representative teams.

Yoga classes are presented in an imaginative, age-appropriate way for each group from Years 1 to 12. The younger students enjoy stories, music and games to learn active Yoga postures. The older students are given more challenging postures and focus on their breathing and the flow of the movements. All sessions conclude with a deep relaxation exercise. Students notice an improvement in balance, strength flexibility and coordination and a greater sense of calm. Yoga naturally enhances self-esteem and respect.

Yoga’s Effects on the Body:

  • Reduced stress levels
  • Stimulates improvements in attention, concentration and memory
  • Increases cardiovascular efficiency and decreases blood pressure
  • Lowers heart rate and pulse rate, making it an important factor in reducing heart disease

  • Anxiety, depression and hostility decreases and social adjustments increases
  • Immune function increases
  • Physical strength and endurance increases
  • Flexibility and joint range of motion increases
  • Balance, hand-eye coordination, dexterity and fine motor skills improve
  • Improvement of many medical conditions and slows the ageing process

Yoga classes recommended for students in Prep through to Year 12 over 15 weeks of tuition, on a Semester basis, one class per week. Classes for Years Prep – Year 4 are of 40-minute duration.
