What a Great Fete!

How wonderful it was to share the excitement of our community on a sparkling Autumn day last Saturday for what I suspect might have been our biggest Fete yet. There was a real energy and joy in the air and the day ran so smoothly with something for every member of the family. The joy of children on ponies, teenagers on rides, class groups hosting stalls, beautiful food prepared with love from parent groups and lots of families spending time together made it a very happy day.

There are so many people to thank for making the day so special:

  • All the parents who contributed time, gifts, donations
  • The many students who worked to make the stalls so special and kept the crowd entertained with fantastic music ensemble performances
  • Our fabulous teaching and boarding staff who worked in all different areas with girls and parents
  • Our many Parent Volunteer Group Committees who have been working on and planning their stalls for many months now
  • Anouk, Lou and Donna from the Parents & Friends group who orchestrated the legendary Cent Auction
  • Our Boarder Parents Support Group who provided a fabulous kebab stall
  • Our Fathers’ Club and their wonderful BBQ stall
  • So many Parents and Friends who ran stalls
  • Our Rowing Supporters Group who hosted the Champagne Tent
  • Pacific Fair for facilitating the Year 10 Fashion Parade
  • Our Scrunchie & Co Year 5 Entrepreneurs who sold out of scrunchies
  • Our many Cleaners who made sure the school was sparkling both before and after the event
  • Our Maintenance Team who work so well on making our grounds so welcoming
  • Our Facilities and Operations teams who work in the background to make sure everything is available and safe
  • And the many Volunteers who gave so generously to assist us on the day and in the lead-up

One of our mothers sent me this email which was addressed to Simone Crowther and I wanted to share it. I am grateful for her comments and agree with her praise of our wonderful Community Liaison Officer:

My whole family came and thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and evening. There was something for everyone. My 9-year-old son rode the rides and ate all day, my 14-year-old son met his St Hilda’s girl gang and had a fabulous day with his friends. My daughter sang, played, helped out then kept my Cent Auction tickets in check with her girlfriends. My husband caught up with lots of friends in the champagne tent. I enjoyed my stint on our stall and thoroughly enjoyed observing all our students relaxing, smiling, giggling, laughing, participating and generally feeling lighter for a day.

This is the beauty of Fete day. It’s a truly inclusive family event.

Thank you so much for all of your hard work and that of your right hand man Bret. Without you this would not be possible and run so smoothly.

The sun shone brightly yesterday and you should be so very proud of how well you shone yesterday too…

I just want to say thank you for bringing our community together and being the glue that makes this all stick. You rock!
