Andrews Cup Swimming Captain’s Report
The official Andrews Cup swimming season started off with a bang with our training squad working really hard to secure a place in the team. As a team we trained together every Wednesday which was great for building team spirit and supporting each other.
After weeks of swim training, it was time to pick our Andrews Cup team. We trialled on a Saturday morning a week before Andrews Cup, which was so much fun. Even though we were racing we still had time to enjoy ourselves and cheer for each other and we produced some great times. The official Andrews Cup team was announced a few days before the big competition.
The day of the Andrews Cup Swimming competition had finally arrived on Tuesday 6 March and we were all nervous but really excited and 100% ready.
To start the day off for our team, we had Kate Taylor performing the Open 100 individual Medley. She had a great race and was just pipped for first place. This was followed by medley relays for the 9, 10, 11 and 12 year olds and we placed well in all of these events.
At the midway point after a number of individual events, St Hilda’s was coming third overall. It was great to see how everyone’s hard work was paying off. As the competition came to an end, there was one big race left, the Springfield Cup. Our team was made up of myself, Kate, Alexi and Sara. We raced our hearts out! We felt really happy with our efforts as we left everything in the pool and managed a second place overall.
At the end of the day, the results came in with St Hilda’s placing second in three age groups (8, 9 and 12 year olds), second in the Springfield cup and an amazing third overall out of a total of 10 teams.
Well done to all the swimmers for racing their hearts out and giving their best efforts and thank you to all the coaches and staff for helping us to achieve this result.

ANDREWS CUP TENNIS – Captains Report (Alize Yarwood)
Last Tuesday was the Andrews Cup Tennis and I am thrilled to say that everyone that got on the court gave it their all which led us to some fantastic results. We placed 5th in the C social, 5th in the C grade, 1st in the B grade and the two teams we had entered in the A grade finished 3rd and 1st, with the St Hilda’s 2 team defeating MBC in the final 7-2. Winning both the A and B divisions meant that we received two large trophies for the school in what is the 8oth anniversary of Andrews Cup sport.
I would like to thank the coaches and Senior students who came to the event and helped make it possible and, most importantly, to all the girls in the Andrews Cup Tennis team for trying their best and not giving up.
ANDREWS CUP TOUCH – Captains Report (Tahlia Brown)
The Andrews Cup Touch girls had been training for a long 7 weeks and every week they tried their best and put in 100% focus for their coaches. I wanted to say a huge thank you to Mr Moore for making this day possible and all the coaches who came along and helped make this day so special.
I would also like to say ‘great job’ to all the girls who participated in Andrews Cup Touch – you all did an outstanding job. The results were amazing! Great job C and D teams for trying your best and performing very well. A fantastic job to the B team who came 1st in their division, and congratulations to the A team who came 2nd.
Tuesday was a great day and everybody had fun which is all that matters. I am very proud to be your Touch Captain for 2018. Please continue to join Club Touch on Saturdays and Monday afternoon trainings.
INTER HOUSE CROSS COUNTRY
Last Friday saw the running of the Inter House Cross Country Carnival at Owen Park and for the first time it was a whole school event for girls in Years 2-12. It was great seeing both the Junior and Middle/Senior students interacting throughout the day, and even better watching the older girls assist and run with the younger girls to help them in the finishing stages of races. The Junior girls probably also motivated the older girls to perform better in their events.
The St Hilda’s School Spirit was definitely on display for everyone to see and all girls across the School should be proud and congratulated for their efforts on the day.

OUTSTANDING SPORTING PERFORMANCE IN TENNIS (Analiese Murphy)
Analiese Murphy competed in a JDS Tournament on Sunday and performed really well, reaching the Finals of the U11 singles tournament.
After a big week where she was part of the winning doubles team to win the B division competition at the Andrews Cup Tennis competition on Tuesday, and then also winning the 11 Years age group at the Inter House Cross Country on Friday, Analiese was up against steep competition all day. In the finals she lost by 2 games on what was a very hot day and after a big week of sport in the lead up. Congratulations and Well Done!
