Students in Years 7 and 8 play the keyboard and guitar and develop their vocal skills. Self-confidence blossoms as they perform for each other in the classroom.  Other supporting activities include

  • Using the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra App – MSO Learn – on their iPads
  • Using ProKeys on their iPads to practise keyboard skills
  • Composing with Garageband using the class set of Macbook Pros
  • Creating Singstar performances with the Sony Playstation

From Year 9 when Music becomes an elective subject, students are exposed to an eclectic mix of musical styles and genres through the study of composition, musicology and performance as they work towards becoming autonomous musicians capable of creating their own individual style.  Skills are developed through:

  • Playing percussion instruments and composing for Junior School classes
  • Using Sibelius on the class set of Macbook Pros for composing
  • Playing guitar
  • Using software programs Auralia and Musition to develop theoretical and aural skills
