Year 9 Curriculum
Year 9 girls have a growing interest in the future and, in particular, the pathways they intend to pursue. It is also at this time that they seek to establish links between what they are achieving at school and their aspirations for the future.
Our Middle School curriculum offers a broad and diverse range of academic subjects and practical experiences that prepare girls for Senior School. We aim to stimulate them intellectually, to help each girl achieve her personal best, and to give her a lifelong love of learning.
The curriculum in Year 9 is flexible and designed to allow our girls to experience both breadth and depth in their chosen courses. The courses offered in all subjects build on the essential skills developed in Years 7 and 8 to ensure the girls are challenged and well prepared for the complex demands of Senior School. In Year 9, students study a core curriculum as well as electives which are introduced for the first time.
English, History, Mathematics, Science, Health &Physical Education and Religious Education.
Students choose three electives:
- Business, Finance & Management
- Design & Technology
- English Literature
- Media Arts
- Sport Science
- Visual Art
The Connection Breakfast
We take great pride and joy in celebrating the journey and success of each and every student in the Middle School. The Connection Breakfast is a Middle School tradition that is organised by Year 9 students and takes place at the end of the year. This culminating event is an important rite of passage as the girls prepare for their transition to Senior School. The School draws on its former school leaders as motivational speakers for the event. These former students have been able to provide valuable practical advice based on their experiences.
Young adolescents are strongly driven by the need for interpersonal involvement. Social interaction opportunities with TSS, enhance communication and builds community connections. One of the most anticipated rite of passage events for girls in Year 9 is the dance classes with TSS. These opportunities to socialize and form friendships whilst learning new skills add another dimension to the girls’ experience.
