Gala Concert – Make It Count!

Although it now seems a lifetime ago, we must commend all St Hilda’s musicians from Prep to Year 12 who performed in the 2021 Gala Music Concert on Sunday 25 July in the Annand Theatre at The Southport School. This year’s Concert, themed “Make It Count!”, as usual featured all the School’s Music Ensembles (plus the traditional staff ensemble) performing a variety of musical styles from classical, jazz, pop and music theatre repertoire. The finale featured the Years 2-12 all working together to perform the classic Seasons of Love from Rent.

This annual event continues to highlight the students’ musical talents and ability to work as a cohesive musical team, led by 2021’s talented Year 12 musicians. It is always a delight to see the girls from Middle and Senior School working with those of the Junior School and when combined with a very trusty group of teachers and parents, it makes it easy to produce a seamless and entertaining concert event. Congratulations to all involved.

Gold Coast Eisteddfod and Music Fest

Due to recent and current COVID-19 restrictions, unfortunately the Gold Coast Eisteddfod Choral and String Ensemble sections and the Term 3 sessions of Music Fest in Brisbane were cancelled for 2021. The Eisteddfod has however, launched an online competition for those entered in the String Ensemble sections, with both our Junior and Senior String Ensembles planning to record their entries for submission before the September holidays.

The Gold Coast Eisteddfod is continuing with many solo sections, some at rescheduled dates. For more information visit: Gold Coast Eisteddfod

Individual Successes

Many of our talented musicians have continued to perform individually as part of the Gold Coast Eisteddfod. Whether they have received an award or not, the self-confidence gained from the experience is very valuable. If there are any individual results that we may not be aware of and are not listed below, please do not hesitate to advise the music department via
