Evening Stars Twilight Concert – 20 July The Chapel
Congratulations to all our performers who presented their musical talents at the Evening Stars Twilight Concert last night in the Chapel. Many thanks to those staff members and parents and friends who came along to form the appreciative audience.
Performers included the following outstanding young musicians:
Australian Opera – Carmen at HOTA – Children’s Chorus
On Friday 16 and Saturday 17 July, Aurora Salmon (Year 8), Amelia Dunwoodie (Year 8) and Mila Park (Year 4) took to the HOTA stage as part of a Children’s Chorus performing with Opera Australia (OA) in their touring production of Bizet’s Carmen. The girls had auditioned in late-March, along with numerous other talented young vocalists, hoping to secure a spot in the 24-member ensemble. A challenging 10-week rehearsal period followed, led by our own Mr Antony Zambolt as the OA Children’s Chorus Leader.
Aside from the many musical challenges, the Children’s Chorus also had to memorise their parts in French language. Once arriving on the Gold Coast last week, the OA company also conducted vocal, instrumental, acting and movement workshops with the Children’s Chorus, with Aurora receiving some one-on-one flute coaching with the company’s touring flautist. OA touring productions entertain audiences in regional areas every two years, and give young people, such as Aurora, Amelia and Mila, the incredible opportunity to be a part of a professional OA production.
