Gala Concert – Stand Up! Stand Out!
Although it now seems a lifetime ago, we must commend all St Hilda’s musicians from Prep to Year 12 who performed in the 2022 Gala Music Concert on Sunday 24 July in the Annand Theatre at The Southport School. This year’s concert, themed around our Senior Prefects’ motto for the year “Stand Up! Stand Out!”, featured as usual all the School’s Music Ensembles (plus the traditional staff ensemble) performing a variety of musical styles from classical, jazz, pop and music theatre repertoire. The finale featured the Years 2-12 all working together to perform a mash-up of the classic hits Stand By Me and Lean On Me.
This annual event continues to highlight the students’ musical talents and ability to work as a cohesive musical team, led by 2022’s talented Year 12 musicians. It is always a delight to see the girls from Middle and Senior School working with those of the Junior School and when combined with a very trusty group of teachers, parents and supporting staff it makes it easy to produce a seamless and entertaining concert event. Congratulations to all involved.
Gold Coast Eisteddfod
The Gold Coast Eisteddfod has returned in almost pre-COVID mode for 2022, with nearly all our ensembles performing live or for some very large groups, Middle/Senior Concert Band and Year 6 Band, in the virtual competition.
Congratulations must go to our Senior String Ensemble who were placed 1st (Gold Award) in their Secondary School B Grade String Ensemble section and Junior String Ensemble placed 3rd (Silver Award) in their respective Primary School section. Junior Concert Band also performed very admirably at HOTA in the C Grade Primary School Concert Band section receiving a Silver Award amongst some stiff competition.
Many of our talented musicians have also continued to perform individually as part of the Gold Coast and Quota Beenleigh Eisteddfod. Whether they have received an award or not, the self-confidence gained from the experience is very valuable. If there are any individual results that we may not be aware of and are not listed below, please do not hesitate to advise the music department via firstname.lastname@example.org.
