Junior Music Presentations Assembly
At Junior School’s Years 3 to 6 Assembly on Monday 8 November, we were very impressed by some outstanding music performances and able to award Junior School musicians who have worked hard throughout the year as members of choirs and instrumental ensembles.

The assembly opened with solo performances by ten Year 6 musicians, performing in competition on their instruments as part of the annual Year 6 Instrumental Idol competition, and also the Year 6 Percussion Ensemble with their rendition of Somebody That I Used To Know. All performers were outstanding this year and the placegetters were:

1st                    Stella Reichman – Violin

2nd                   Gabrielle Aloysius – Cello

3rd (equal)        Hertha Chang – Trombone and Charlotte White – Alto Saxophone

The Year 5s followed with their first public performances on the instrument they started as part of the instrumental music program six months ago, with the Concert Band piece Dragon Dance conducted by Mrs Louise Emery.

The Junior Music Captains also presented a great summary of their year in music during 2021. Congratulations to Gabrielle Aloysius, Phoebe Wiggins and Emily Wilson on their contribution as Junior School Music Captains this year.

Congratulations must go to the trophy winners for ensembles presented also at this assembly. Their leadership and achievements this year as part of their choirs, bands, and strings groups has been greatly appreciated.

State Honours Ensemble Program at Qld Conservatorium in September Holidays
Unfortunately, the Qld State Honours Ensemble Program, run through Griffith University’s Open Conservatorium in Brisbane, was cancelled after one day of the program due to changing COVID restrictions this year. It has been rescheduled to 16-19 December, when it is hoped as many as possible of our 12 musicians who qualified for this event can attend.

However, the Australian Honours Ensemble, as part of this program, did proceed and special congratulations must go to Annalize de Wet in Year 10 who auditioned and was successful in being placed in the Australian Honours Ensemble on trombone. What outstanding work from one of our young musicians.
