St Hilda’s Pre-Prep is rated as ‘Exceeding’ the National Quality Standard for Approved Kindergarten Programs!
In the Pre-Prep year, we provide a place where girls can explore their creativity in a stimulating, safe and caring environment. A team of experienced and nurturing early childhood staff, who possess a deep understanding and respect of young children, can further develop your daughter’s rapidly expanding abilities with an abundance of joy and laughter.
The Pre-Prep curriculum is driven by the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines and the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) which embraces the inclusive vision, “all children experience learning that is engaging and builds success for life”. The Early Years Learning framework has a strong emphasis on play-based learning. Through active interaction, exploration, and observation of the environment, your daughter actively creates and discovers her own learning. Play facilitates the transition to higher levels of cognitive development; the ‘as if’ nature of play allows children to perform actions that are more developmentally advanced than those they can realistically achieve. Play fosters a sense of self-esteem and competence, supporting and reinforcing the child’s capacity for effective action. Through spontaneous and planned play experiences, children form relationships, cooperate, develop self-control and extend their range of possibilities.
The EYLF also recognises the importance of communication and language, including literacy and numeracy, together with social and emotional development. At St Hilda’s Pre-Prep, we believe that no one area is more important than another. Our focus is on a holistic approach, enabling our youngest girls of the school to flourish and grow, allowing their interests to direct their learning.
The Pre-Prep day begins with a 45-minute block of time where teachers and teacher-aides interact with girls and their families during outdoor play in our spacious and dynamic playground. Parents and other family members will be given opportunities throughout the year to attend curriculum sessions, share in the girls’ experiences and gain an understanding of their engagement with learning. Participation in this way enables parents to gain an insight into the daily program and to observe their daughter’s involvement whilst at school.
St Hilda’s Pre-Prep and OSHC are Approved Care Providers and as such are entitled to offer eligible parents the reduction of fees under Child Care Subsidy System (CCSS). This is the system for processing Child Care Subsidy claims. It is the responsibility of the parent to register for Child Care Subsidy and complete the required paperwork at the time of enrolment at St Hilda’s School.
