Well, that’s a wrap! In the blink of an eye, QG Sport is over for another year. Thank you to the Sport Department and all of our coaches who have guided the girls over the past 12 months. Thank you to our parent community for ensuring that the girls were at trials and training and that went to support them when they were competing. Each year we aim to be better than the previous. In 2019, we want to raise the bar higher.
‘No one rises to low expectations,’ Les Brown.
This is our mantra in 2019 and it starts with ensuring that girls are wearing the St Hilda’s sport uniform proudly, giving 100 percent at training and committing to their respective teams whether it be in the pool or on the court. In return, our coaches will aim to provide a safe and nurturing environment in which each girls can develop at their own pace and feel that they are part of a team. We have achieved a ten-year best result of 11 QGSSSA pennants and had girls participate in new sports and meet new friends. The social and emotional gains from sport are immeasurable. As I have quoted previously, some of our biggest learnings are outside of the classroom. We look forward to 2019 being a great year in St Hilda’s Sport!
2018 QGSSSA Badminton
2018 saw our best overall results in St Hilda’s Badminton history! We had five pennant winning teams and multiple teams finishing in second or third place. We are very proud of every girl’s effort and enthusiasm this season and look forward to continuing to build our badminton teams over the coming years. Thank you and congratulations to all the players and coaching staff.

St Hilda’s Junior Softball had very good results this season with limited training opportunities due to the school oval closure and wet weather. Whilst some teams had a few struggles with the bat due to minimal practice, every team’s fielding was exceptional and the camaraderie displayed on the diamond was remarkable. All teams worked well together and fought hard for every out and every run home. Congratulations to all players and coaches for a fantastic season and some incredible results.
Brisbane Heat van visits St Hilda’s
We recently had the opportunity to welcome the Brisbane Heat van back to the Middle School so that girls could try their hands at cricket. 2019 will see the introduction of one Middle Senior School team into the QGSSSA Term 1 competition. Girls have been coming to the netball courts for some skills sessions over the past two weeks. If you are in Year 7 to 12 in 2019 and are interested in learning more, email email@example.com and come to the netball courts at lunch time Tuesday 27 of November to express your interest.
Opens Touch Trials and Autumn Fixture Sports in 2019
Due to the unavailability of Owen Park in the early stages of the 2019 school year, Opens Touch trials commenced on Saturday 10 November. Our remaining touch teams, basketball and soccer trials/training will commence early in Term 1, 2019. If you are interested in participating in an Autumn Fixture sport in 2019, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Mrs Moore, Mrs Lilley, Mrs Stewart and Mrs Still-Wright from the Middle Senior Sport Department visited the Year 6 classrooms last Monday providing a Middle Senior sport overview for the girls before the end of the 2018 school year.
2018/2019 QGSSSA Swimming Squad
It was great to be able to see the 2018/2019 QGSSSA Swimming squad in full training over the term. Ken Malcolm, Suzy McCaughtrie and Hugh Simson have them working hard in preparation for 2019. It was great to see the girls smiling at the end of the session, finishing with some team bonding activities which are paramount in building a positive culture. Keep up the good work in the holidays girls, ready for 2019!
2018 Club Touch Season 2 Finals
Best of luck to all our Club Touch teams that will compete in the final series this Saturday 24 November. We have all five of our teams playing in different finals and are guaranteed to win Division 3 as the final is between two of our school teams! Thank you to all our Year 12s who have played Club Touch throughout their schooling at St Hilda’s.

Congratulations to Sierra Llewellyn who won a silver medal in the recent QSS State Athletics Championships at QSAC. Sierra heads off to Melbourne later this week to compete at the National Athletics Championships. Our other athletics superstars, Caitlin Boyle, Nyah Bollinger and Hannah Collins, represented South Coast in fine fashion. It was great to hear of personal best performances and new goals for 2019. A big thanks to Sharon and Peter Hannan and our specialist coaches that have assisted and supported all of our St Hilda’s girls over the past year.
The following girls also competed at the QLD All Schools Athletics Championships:
Congratulations to Momo Ito who competed in the 2km Gold Coast Ocean Swim event, finishing first in the 15-18 age category and finishing 3rd overall in the women’s race.
Congratulations to Brianna Free who competed in the 20km Gold Coast Classic Ocean Ski Race from Surfers to Tallebudgera and finished first in the Spec Ski Open Women Other category.
