Saturday saw the first games played by the Open and Junior hockey teams against BGGS. Although both teams lost, the score didn’t reflect the determination and enthusiasm displayed by all the girls. The junior girls managed to keep most of the opposition’s goals out, and a special mention for Bella who volunteered to play as goal keeper. The Open girls fought hard throughout their game, maintaining their strength of character and at the same time enjoying the first game of the season.

For our first game of the season it was a great start with each and every girl giving 100%. Going up against Brisbane Girls’ Grammar who were strong competition, each team held their own and played with great determination. A big congratulations to the 7B team for obtaining the closest score out of all 9 QG Netball teams. All girls are to be commended for their efforts at training and continuing to train hard in the lead up to next Saturday’s games. We wish them the best of luck!

Back at school for Term 3 and the girls kick-started the QG season on the first Saturday back ready for competition against the BGGS girls in Brisbane. The conditions were perfect for a morning of tennis. The Open teams gave it their all. However, both teams unfortunately came away with a close loss in the doubles. Newcomer, Lindsay Engelen brought home a win in the Open singles. The Seniors teams gave their all, with some wins and losses. While it wasn’t a dominating round on our behalf, it was a pleasing start to the season and gives the team hope for the future rounds.

Season 1 Club Netball News
On 2 July, the Year 12 ladies team played in the Grand Final for Division 7. They played an amazing game with just 7 players and no subs. Throughout the game, the girls gave 100% and never gave up, they constantly pressured the other team which led to an outstanding win. Throughout the season these girls worked incredibly hard towards the grand final and became a team that constantly supported each other and worked as a unit. Big congratulations to all the girls who played in the Chargers Chrystals and we can’t wait to see how you go next season.

2018 Rowing Camp Reflections
On 21 June, the Year 8s and Seniors participated in a four-day rowing camp. The camp was held at the TSS Boatsheds and Lake Wyaralong and was a great chance for all crews to get used to the racing course and build self-esteem for the upcoming season. It was also a great chance for the Seniors to build big sister relationships with the younger girls.
On 11 July girls from Years 9 to 12 travelled to Grafton for an enjoyable six-day rowing camp, with the Year 8s joining us in Grafton for the remainder of the camp on the 13th. Throughout the six days, the girls endured freezing temperatures, painful blisters and exquisite rowing conditions. The camp provided a fantastic opportunity for each crew to prepare physically and technically for the upcoming racing season in a focused and intense manner while enjoying the team building and camaraderie of crewmates on and off the water. A huge thank you to all the parents who travelled to Grafton to help in preparing and making food for all the girls at the camp, your hard work didn’t go unnoticed. A big thank you also to our Director of Rowing Adam Harrison for organising the camp. Grace and I would like to wish every crew the best of luck for the upcoming season and can’t wait to see what each crew will produce on Lake Wyaralong.
Amelia Connolly – Rowing Co-Captain
