TEAM ROUND OPPOSITION RESULT MVP MOST IMPROVED
Senior A 3 BGGS WIN 3-1 Abbey Porter Harriett Richards

The Senior As had another great game on the weekend, with a hard-earned win against Brisbane Girls Grammar School. Our strikers and midfielders once again played fantastically fast to keep the ball in the offensive half of the field and got us to a steady 1-1 by half-time. In the second half, our defence rose to the challenge that BGGS presented us, with Olivia Knoesen and Harriett Richards trapping and running balls up the field. Special mention must go to our goal scorers, Eva Devlin, Eve Deshon and Abbey Porter, along with our relatively new goalie Samantha Douglas, who pulled off some great saves.

A big well done goes to all the Netball teams who played against BGGS on the weekend. It was a fantastic round for all teams who gave the BGGS girls strong competition and they should be proud of how they played. A big shout out goes to the 9As who took out a win as well as the 10Bs who played a fantastic second half! Not only was the game-play amazing, but the support off-court showed amazing St Hilda’s spirit! Keep up the energy girls, we look forward to watching all the netballers smash the next few rounds!

On Friday, we played against Brisbane Girls Grammar School, who are always tough competition. Nonetheless, the girls played extremely well, and the matches were very close. The girls should be very proud of themselves as it was our first game for the season due to cancellations on our first intended game against St Aidan’s. It was also great to see the girls supporting each other and umpiring their games. My shout outs go to Amelie van Twest and Yvette Willemsen because they waited and supported until the last match on court. Opens and Junior As are to also be congratulated on their immense efforts.

Last week’s volleyball games were tough for all St Hilda’s teams against Brisbane Girls Grammar School. Despite the very stern competition, our School spirit was not deflated. The 8As were the standout team as they came very close to a win, with the final score 2-1. Within the team, Chloee Atkinson was recognized as the most valuable player and Sage Gallagher as most improved. Hopefully, with some continued great training this week, all our teams will be prepared and excited for the upcoming home game.

We had another fantastic game on the weekend, with our largest win margin this season over Somerville House! Our team played exceptionally well and special mention must go to our strikers Ella Brenac, Abbey Porter, Fern Deshon, Eve Deshon and Korcula Cowan who put up a relentless offensive front against our opponents. Even though it was a quieter game for our defence, we had some fantastic plays by Kyella Alback and Sam Douglas, who ensured that we finished the game with a clean box. Congratulations to all the girls who played so well and I’m looking forward to another great game against Brisbane State High next week!

Saturday’s Netball games showed St Hilda’s fabulous spirit and determination. We had several wins and every single one of those teams should be incredibly proud of themselves, as should the other teams that gave it a red hot crack! It was amazing to see teams cheer each other on and stay to score and help. Shout out to all the coaches who helped with all the sanitizing and, of course, for the support and encouragement from the sideline!

On Saturday, the girls gave it their all against Somerville House. It was a very hot day and the matches were tough for everyone. Regardless, all the games were very close, and St Hilda’s ended up coming out on top in three of the divisions. I am extremely proud of everyone for their perseverance and my special shout-out goes to Tasha Sheppard and Stephanie Korff. Tasha and Steph, despite playing back-to-back games of doubles and singles, went out on the court and gave it their all and their efforts to keep going left me in awe. Good work girls!

There was a lively atmosphere at our second home game against Somerville and it was great to see everyone cheering on the other teams. All teams played very well and a shout out must go to the 10As, specifically Remi Long, who played exceptionally against a tough Somerville team. Another special shout out to Emma Raby who served many aces in an incredibly close game for the Opens team. We can’t wait to see the teams’ improvement as we move further into the season.

We had another smashing game on the weekend, with a 5-1 win against Brisbane State High School! It was one of our best games yet (as State High are not to be underestimated), with our midfielders really taking the lead and moving the ball quickly and efficiently up the field to victory! Our strikers, particularly Eva Devlin and Fern Deshon, were fantastic in moving to ‘pockets’ in the field and sneaking the ball past the opponents’ defense. Special mention must also go to our goalie, Ella Brenac, who played her first ever game in goals but looked like a natural, with some incredible saves to now add to her resume. We are still undefeated this season and looking forward to keeping up the streak!

Brisbane State High School gave St Hilda’s Netball a run for our money on Saturday. It was touch and go whether or not all the games would go ahead due to the weather. The first round managed to get a whole game in before the rain started in time for the second round. All teams played well and there were no injuries as a result of the wet courts! Major shout out to the 10Bs who tied their game and the Opens team who won their first quarter and kept up the competition against State High throughout the whole game!

This week’s volleyball games against Brisbane State High made for a very tough round for all our teams. Unfortunately, we had some narrow losses with some sets only separated by three points! This did not hinder our amazing School spirit and strong competitive nature. The Year 8 team pulled off an incredible win and all teams were so enthusiastic. We look forward to our home games next week and hopefully getting over the line on the score board.
