All girls arrived with great enthusiasm and were excited to play their first game of QG Netball. When we arrived at Ipswich the cold breeze certainly woke us up, but there were a lot of smiles and energy. The coaching team were ecstatic to start working and improving on game play now that the first games have been played, and we were thrilled for our 10A and 9B teams to secure their wins. Our 7B team played a wonderful game and were unlucky to go down in the last few minutes of the game. We are hoping for some more wins next weekend.

On Saturday, our girls in tennis played their first match for the season. Waking up at 5am to leave for Ipswich at 6am is already an immense measure of commitment – but the girls pulled through and all the teams managed to win overall against Ipswich Girls Grammar. This marks an incredible start to the season, and I am so excited to see how far the girls will go in the following rounds! A special shoutout must go to Halle and Zoe – their enthusiasm and dynamic make their doubles games fun to watch. Keep up the great work, girls!

Round 1 for volleyball brought us up against Ipswich Girls Grammar. The 7A and 7B teams had amazing games, with both teams smashing it out with wins in all three sets. Another incredible match saw the 8A team fight hard for a win in the first set, loss in the second and an incredibly close loss of 25-23 in the third set. The Year 9s had another tough game but managed to stay strong and get the win in all 3 sets. The Opens team had a nail-biting five set game after going down in the first two sets and making an incredible comeback in the third set and then keeping their momentum in the fourth set. The tensions were high with all spectators and players on the edge of their seats for the fifth and final set. The Ipswich girls put up an amazing fight, but St Hilda’s took it home with a 15-8 win in the deciding set. It was a long day for the volleyball girls but throughout the whole day, all the girls were eager to help out with duties; picking up flags to do lines or helping out with scoring at any chance. We also had some of our Opens teams helping out with refereeing for some games, an important role and the girls were able to learn on the spot. Overall week 1 of Volleyball had amazing results and even better spirit, kicking off what will definitely be a ripper of a season.

We couldn’t be happier to be Australian following Ash Barty’s amazing win at Wimbledon. It has been 40 years since the last female Australian, Evonne Goolagong Cawley won this prestigious event and it is very special for us to celebrate being a Queenslander with Ash.
QGSSSA Tennis has now begun for our girls here at St Hilda’s and we are extremely excited to compete against all the other girls’ schools throughout Southeast Queensland. Our Tennis Captain Hikaru Tsuji is excited to lead and encourage our Tennis girls to fulfil and enjoy their season once again.
