QGSSSA Cross Country Championship 2021
On Saturday 15th May, over 80 St Hilda’s girls, ranging from Years 7-12 headed up to Rivermount College in Yatala for the annual QGSSSA Cross Country Carnival. Although this year was a little different to previous years with a rainy forecast scheduled the week prior, the smiles on all the girls faces as they crossed the finish line and the cheering from the side of the track did not change, even when completely covered in mud!! I spoke to a couple of the girls at the end of the day, and they said to me, “This was by far the best QG yet, I never knew running in the mud could be so much fun!”.
To me, that just goes to show the enthusiasm, School spirit and determination each and every competitor had on the day, regardless of their position at the finish line. A special thank you must go to our amazing coaches, Sharon, Teresa and Josh who have helped each girl either improve her fitness, form or even her love and passion for running throughout this season.
Without your constant guidance, support and motivation, the success we have had this year would not have been possible. Another important mention must also go to Mrs West for joining us at all the lead up meets and the competition on Saturday to make sure everyone was excited, organized and on the start line at the right time. Congratulations to all runners on Saturday, your efforts as you ran up each hill and through every muddy patch are to be both commended and appreciated! Well done, girls.

This week we played against Somerville House and what a fight we put up. Each team played to the best of their ability. Unfortunately, the Opens did not reach victory but definitely won in spirit, considering how close the game was.
The 9Bs fought hard and came back with an excellent win, congratulations girls! We are now up against Brisbane State High School this Friday, which will be a good game to come and watch.

A massive congratulations must go to all our football girls. The Juniors giving new things a go, with Lili Rogers attempting goalkeeper for the very first time with an amazing dropkick.
The Intermediates smashing out goals from the first whistle, setting themselves up for an amazing win of three nil despite the fact they only had half a game. Our Opens didn’t disappoint either. Executing an extremely impressive penalty goal was Issy Lee who led the team to a draw of 3/3 in the last five minutes.
This could not have happened without the help of Fern Deshon who rose to the occasion coming from the Intermediates team with teammates, Ella Uyede and Natalie O’Grady, to score two outstanding goals. This is the Opens first victory. Congratulations girls and coaches, it’s only upwards from here!

Another amazing round of touch for our girls against Somerville House! Playing in the pouring rain and stormy weather was an adrenaline-rush for us all and we made the best of the conditions.
We walked away with a win in every single game we played, which is incredible! We would like to give a shoutout to every team, as this is one of the best result’s we have ever had from a QG touch round! Also, to Mr Young, who despite the rain, came to support anyway. We are very excited for our upcoming games and wish the best to everyone.

This week we played against a very tough school and every team played to the best of their ability. With Brisbane State High School being our hardest competition yet, everyone kept their chin up high and went into the game with a positive mindset. Each team played at their very best, showing immaculate support.
A big shoutout to Eva Pinkerton who gave an outstanding performance. Unfortunately, neither of the teams came back with a win, but definitely won in spirit. This week we are up against St Margaret’s which will be a good game to come and watch. We hope to see as many people as possible coming to support us.
