School Sport Shout Outs!

  • State Swimming Championships – Congratulations to all St Hilda’s students who attended the State Swimming Trials as part of the School Sport South Coast team. A big shout out to the following students for their amazing top 3 results:

  • South Coast AFL – Congratulations to Cleone Halsall who competed for the Hinterland District at the School Sport South Coast Trials at the end of Term 1. Cleone was successful in gaining selection into the South Coast Team to compete in Cairns – well done Cleone!

  • South Coast Touch – Congratulations to Holly Bertwistle who was selected into the U15 Team to compete at States in Brisbane later this year.

Years 2-12 Inter-House Cross Country Carnival 2021

Last Thursday, we had our annual Inter-House Cross Country and the spirit shown from the three Senior School Houses was amazing! Our girls ran amazing times throughout the day and pushed themselves to complete the course. It was amazing to see so many girls cheering around the course and even helping some of the younger girls run the last few 100 metres of the course! We also had our Student vs Teacher Tug of War and Boarder vs Day Girl Tug of War! Fpr the first time our Student team defeated the Teachers, winning a thrilling 2 out of 3 rounds and our amazing Boarders took out the win against the Day Girls winning all 3 rounds!

Congratulations to Banksia on their huge win of the day! A big shoutout to Kenina Murtagh who was standing at the bottom of the hill throughout the whole day cheering on every single girl who ran past!

This week we were up against Brisbane Girls Grammar School who put up a fight in all divisions. Our Opens team fought particularly hard in a close game that went into overtime. All of the teams put in an outstanding effort and are looking forward to playing Somerville House this Friday.

The football girls of the Roo crew should be proud to come back from a month without training and play three outstanding games. The Junior team having fun and gaining experience from the Intermediates. An outstanding player this round was Saffron Williams who made two line breaks to score goals. The Opens team had a tough game but finished with smiles all round. Hopefully we can have more great games in the weeks coming.

Another great round of touch games for our girls on Friday 23 April against Brisbane Girls Grammar School. After a long time not being able to play, every team channelled enthusiasm as they each ran onto the field keen to play another game. A special shoutout to both the 9A and 9B teams who took home wins and both played an absolute cracker of a game. Another shoutout to the both the 7A and Opens teams for coming away with a draw, playing two very competitive games right up until the hooter. Congratulations to Holly Bertwistle who had a incredible game. It is so good to see so many girls cheering on other teams, especially at away games, showing the other QG schools what the Roo Pen is all about. We can’t wait for the next two home games ahead and hope to continue this amazing St Hilda’s spirit!

Club & Non-School Sport Shout Outs!

  • State Gymnastics Titles – Congratulations to the following students for their incredible results at the recent competition:
    • Grace O’Reilly (Level 7 Under 15) – 7th Overall, 6th Vault, 3rd Beam, 5th Floor
    • Madison Frankling (Level 7 Open) – 2nd Overall, 2nd Vault, 2nd Bars, 5th Floor
    • Jessica Cleverly (Junior International) – 5th Overall, 5th Vault, 5th Bars, 4th Beam, 3rd (Jessica was also selected in the Junior International Team to represent Queensland at the upcoming National Championships in May.)
    • Anneliese Clarke (Level 7 Under 14) – 6th Overall, 8th Vault, 7th Bars, 5th Beam
  • 2021 Australian Age Championships – Congratulations to all the swimmers who attended the meet: Lili Baumann, Cyra Bender, Ava Brickley, Tylah Crabtree, Georgia Lea’aetoa, Isabella Lee, Lucinda MacLeod, Natalie Shaw. The following students placed top 10 in the event:
    • Ava Brickley – 200M Backstroke

    • Lucinda MacLeod – 100 Freestyle, 400m Freestyle, 200M Freestyle, 200M Individual Medley, 800M Freestyle

We wish Lucinda MacLeod and Natalie Shaw best of luck for the Australian Trials in June.

  • GC Running Events – Congratulations to Alexia Abela who placed 6th in the U14s Luke Harrop Triathlon event over the school holidays. Alexia also competed in the Gold Coast Running Festival where she placed 2nd in the 5km run and 1st place in the Flirt with Dirt event held at Pizzey Park.
  • Australian Surf Lifesaving Championships – Congratulations to Cyra Bender who was crowned the Under 15 Australian Iron Woman, taking away 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze Medal at the Australian Surf Lifesaving Championships.
