St Hilda’s had an incredible start to the inaugural QGSSSA AFL competition on Saturday. Our school set the tone with 59 girls taking the field for the first time to have the strongest participation from any school amongst our 4 teams. Both our Opens and Senior A teams came away undefeated from the day and it was amazing to see every girl having a go. The ‘Roo Pen’ spirit shone bright with all teams supporting each other. A special mention is deserved of Eva Pinkerton, assistant coach Abbie Pratt, water girl Caitlin Wood and photographer Charlotte Baker from Spirit Squad for coming out to support the teams on the day. I can’t wait to see what the next 3 rounds hold for the girls and am super excited to see the girls grow further in a new sport.

Kenina Murtagh – AFL Captain’s Report

QGSSSA Senior AFL has officially come to an end with a final round at Metricon Stadium. It was an amazing experience to play a game of footy in the stadium where many professionals have played before. The day was certainly filled with fun, laughter, spirit and amazing footy. Shoutout to our Senior A and Opens teams who finished the competition undefeated. Also, to Mia Harvey, Eliza MacTaggart, Caitlin Wood, Abbie Pratt for volunteering at the games as well as Charlotte Baker for taking some amazing photos. Thank you to everyone that came out to support the girls, the spirit of the roopen really shone through both on and off the field.

Though the senior AFL competition may have finish, we are super excited to see our junior girls take to the field later in the year!!

Our first round for the basketball girls started against MBC – a tough one to say the least. Our girls gave it their all with some teams in the younger years coming quite close. It was great to see everyone put their training into a game situation, which certainly paid off last week against IGGS with most teams coming away with a win and our Opens finishing with a win of 34-28 to kick off the season. Shoutout for each grade bringing a great culture to the team, we are all so excited to see how the annual Ramsey game goes this Friday!

We had a very successful round one of QGSSSA Touch last Friday with 5 teams coming away with the win, and the others competing in some very close matches. An outstanding performance was put in by all the girls, with special mention to all the Year 7s for giving it their all in their first ever QG game! Also a shoutout to Dior Scholz for coming down and supporting all the girls even though she is unable to play due to injury. We are very proud of our touch captains and cannot wait for the rest of the season!

Artistic Gymnastics

The girls in the artistic gymnastics team this year have chosen to participate because they find it enjoyable, fun and they get to give something new a go. For the girls who do gymnastics outside of school, they feel it has been a nice break from the normal intense training and is a time everyone can come together with their friends to do something they love.

During these past 8 weeks of training, I, along with the girls, feel we as a team and individuals have been able to work hard to improve our routines, all while still having fun. A lot of the girls have said it has been nice to get in extra practice and that these sessions have been very effective for them in improving their performance. Leaving the team feeling ready for the competition coming up quick – next Tuesday. The team are feeling a mixture of emotions about the upcoming competition being very excited but a little nervous at the same time.

Artistic Gymnastics Captain – Emma DeFazio
