Winter Fixtures Round 9: Hockey

TEAM ROUND OPPOSITION RESULT MVP MOST IMPROVED
Senior A 9 STA2 WIN 6-0 Eva Devlin Emily Knoesen

Well, this year’s hockey season has undeniably been our best in many years – not only did we smash out an undefeated season, but our spirit, sportsmanship and enthusiasm were abounding at every single game. It’s been an absolute pleasure to be able to wrap up each game with a loud and impassioned ‘RED GOLD BLUE’ sounding across the field, and all girls should be extremely happy with their consistent performances. To our playmakers and strong strikers Abbey Porter, Eve Deshon, Fern Deshon and Korcula Cowan – you girls put in your absolute best and were the true backbone of our team, effortlessly coordinating our offences and always looking for excellent plays. To our speedy wings Ella Brenac and Eva Devlin – you girls were our underdogs of the season, making sure you were always in those pockets to sneak up on our opponents. To our hard-working midfielders Harriett Richards, Mollie Bender and Emily Knoesen – you girls each had one of the most gruelling and unforgiving positions but made sure to keep the ball consistently in the upper half of the field, and for that you should be extremely proud of yourselves. To our impenetrable defence, Kyella Alback, Olivia Knoesen, Caitlyn Walton, Charley West and Zaima Khan – even though we had a few quiet games when our offence were relentless, you took up the challenge whenever that ball crossed that centre line and showed no mercy in pressuring and stopping our opponents. And, of course, to our goalie Samantha Douglas, who was an intimidating and unstoppable presence on the field. You girls have all grown so much over the course of the season and displayed the very best of the Roo Pen spirit, and I am so incredibly proud to have led you this season. Even so, I know that next year you will reach further, run faster, score harder and cheer louder and I have no doubt that this year will set a precedent for years to come. Well done girls!

Every single St Hilda’s QG Netballer should be proud of the way that they played throughout the season. Their dedication and sportsmanship should be highly commended. No matter what, every team put their all in this season which – no matter the score of the game – left all the coaches proud and demonstrated our school spirit. It takes a lot to continually show up and put your best effort in and all girls continued to do this throughout the season. We are incredibly happy to have been your captains. We hope that St Hilda’s Netball continues to thrive and we have so much faith that one day the score will reflect the effort and dedication every one of our Netballers has put in. Well done and good luck for next season!

The 2020 season of tennis has been quite a hectic one, to say the least. With the season starting quite late because of COVID and with many cancellations due to bad weather, the hurdles we had to jump over as a team have been quite different to any we have seen in the past. Yet, even with such a tumultuous season, the girls always gave it their best shot. The girls improved with time and did so well. I am incredibly proud of every one of them and couldn’t have asked for a better team. My shout-out for this season goes to Billie Phillips. Billie has shown great team spirit by always showing up to trainings and giving her best effort each game. I’d like to thank all the staff and the girls for making this season so special and memorable.

Our last few games have been tough, but it was encouraging to see everyone so eager to continue going to trainings and waking up early for games. A very big shout-out must go to Maki Undi who was able to continuously serve numerous aces in all her games for the 7A team. Another shout-out goes to Ella Fitzpatrick for her constant running and impressive setting for the Senior A. As this year’s volleyball season concludes, congratulations must go to every team for consistently training, cheering each other on at games and, of course, playing their best for the school! Despite all the challenges we have had to face, it has been great to see everyone so enthusiastic to play and ultimately this resulted in a number of wins for us. There is no denying that volleyball is a tough sport that requires hard work and determination. However, we are proud to say that all the girls this season have demonstrated both these criteria. Thank you all for an incredible 2020 volleyball season, we wish you all the best for the upcoming years!

Rowing BSRA Season Wrap Up!

We are so proud of all the girls in the rowing program this season. Despite the restrictions, everyone had fun and made the most of it. A special shout-out must go to the Year 8 rowers who were unfortunately not able to participate in any regattas this year but always displayed amazing sportsmanship. All of the crews this year showed amazing school spirit and teamwork, whether it was during the Head of the River or training at the sheds. We are both so grateful for the amazing support from the RSG, coaches and volunteers who made this season so incredible and unforgettable. Being a part of the St Hilda’s sheds has been a spectacular journey and we are both so thankful to have been able to lead the girls this year.

QGSSSA Athletics

Yesterday our Middle and Senior School Athletes travelled to QSAC Stadium to compete in the 2020 QGSSSA Athletics competition. Well done to all our St Hilda’s competitors on your stellar efforts. We are pleased to share that St Hilda’s placed 7th in the Aggregate Cup, one position better than last year, and 6th in the Percentage Cup, equalling last year’s efforts. We look forward to sharing more photos and highlights early next term.
