This Saturday was the first game back from our three-week hiatus from QG due to COVID. Despite missing a few trainings due to lockdown, the spirits were high as the girls were eager to get back on court and play against St Margaret’s. The girls played very well against a tough competition. The Opens team had some very close matches and were the last ones off court, which always means it was a tight game! It was a great thrill to watch all their games. Fingers crossed that the rest of the season goes on without interruptions! Great work as always, girls!

Another great day of netball! Although the only winners were the 9Bs, there were certainly some stand out teams and girls of the day. The day started out very sunny but as round 3 came along it got incredibly wet, where the 10As and 9Cs had to battle it out in the rain. These girls deserve a major shout out because even though they lost their games they went on continuing playing in the rain with smiles and laughter. Shout out to Tahlia Wilson, Mia Eckstein, Millie Philp, Abbey Dennis and Millie Smith who sat under an umbrella together scoring and cheering on the teams playing in the rain!

Winter Fixtures Round 8 – Tennis

Our games against SPLC (St Peter’s Lutheran College) on Saturday were unfortunately cut short due to the sudden rain. However, most of the teams were able to play some of their matches and played extremely well under the circumstances. I am always so proud of the girls’ display of spirit – despite the delay and cancellation because of the bad weather, the team spirit still shone bright. I’d like to extend my praise to my doubles partner, Liv. Her resilience and fun-loving personality is contagious– she keeps me going and this is my overdue thanks to her for putting up with me for several years as her doubles partner. Overall, it was a great second-last game for the season, and I am very excited for our last game next week! Fantastic work, girls!

As Rowing Co-Captains for 2021, we would like to congratulate every girl for their spectacular performance, not just at Head of the River but for the entirety of the season. The Covid ambushed season has encouraged all the rowers to try their hardest and continue to row with school pride. Every girl made an enormous contribution to the performance and morale of our rowing community, as evident by our win of the percentage cup on Sunday the 5th of September. This is an amazing effort, taking away this cup for the second year in a row. A special shoutout to the Year 10s also won their overall age division for the season for the 3rd  time in 4 years! Another amazing effort to the three open crews, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd VIII who all placed on the podium on Sunday which is an outstanding result. We would like to thank the coaches, parents and every girl who participated at the Head of The River for the extraordinary comradery, endless support and remarkable efforts.

Thank you and good luck next year!

Rowing Captains – Amelya Brooks & Grace Crowther
