Lobsters (Water Familiarisation)

This level is our brand-new introductory level for swimmers who are completely new to the water! This level is limited to 3 students to 1 Teacher, with such a small class we can personalise the session to suit each child’s needs and wants to ensure a successful entry into Learn to Swim. Fun and familiarisation in the water is the key focus and goal!

To be able to graduate from this level, the swimmer will need to display confidence in the water and safety skills, to ensure they are ready for the next step.

Turtles (Beginner)

This level is all about building a foundation that our swimmers can grow from, we will be focusing on producing a strong kick, paddle arms, correcting body positioning, floating and various safety skills, all leading to stroke development, amongst other skills. Classes are limited to 4 students per instructor, swimming a distance of 5m.

Seals (Intermediate)

Now that our swimmers are confident in the water and can keep themselves safe, we can focus on the trickier skills such as over arms in a number 11 position, Backstroke kicks and arms, Kneeling dives, and Somersaults. Our swimmers will be swimming up to 10m, and the class will be limited to 4 per class.

Stingrays (Intermediate)

Stingrays is the level where swimming gets a little more serious, but just as exciting! In this level we will be introducing bilateral breathing, Freestyle Catch-up, full Backstroke and Breaststroke kick, and crouching dives, this is all done whilst extending the swimmers up to 15m swims.

Sharks (Advanced)

Our Sharks now have a solid understanding of each Freestyle, Backstroke and Breaststroke kick, we can now introduce some aspects of Butterfly and full Breaststroke, this will be done whilst extending our swimmers to 20m swims. The learning does not stop there for our Sharks, they will be learning lane etiquette and race skills such as starts, turns, and finishes.

Mini Squad (Advanced)

Swimmers have now graduated to our entry level squad; they should be swimming 2-3 times a week and have a commitment to their swimming. Mini squad students will be swimming all 4 strokes at a 25m distance, they will be improved upon by various drills. The focus will be on consistently maintaining and displaying aesthetic technique over this distance for Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly. These sessions will be limited to 10 students per Coach.

Why are year-round swimming lessons important?

At St Hilda’s Aquatics we strongly encourage year-round swimming lessons for all levels of swimmers, we generally find for every week of swimming it takes roughly 2 weeks to gain back the fitness and skill level.

There are also other various benefits:

  • Classes tend to be smaller giving your child a more personalised lesson plan
  • Your child will progress a lot quicker than students who do not swim through winter
  • It is also hard to re-establish a routine if your child has had a significant break from swimming
  • Can we swim before and after lessons?
  • There is no swimming before or after lessons offered at St Hilda’s Aquatics, as we do not have the facilities to supervise this
When and how will we pay fees?

Fees will be paid Via Bank transfer, over the phone, in person at the pool or direct debit.

How do I cancel my lessons?

At St Hilda’s Aquatics we require 2 weeks’ notice for any cancellation of enrolment

  • What happens if I miss my swimming lesson?
  • We allow a maximum of 1 makeup session per month, and they are subject to availability, to be eligible for a makeup session you must provide us with a minimum of 24hrs notice.
Can I talk to my child’s teacher before, during or after class?

No, your child’s swimming teacher needs to have their full focus on the children they are teaching and awareness of the pool environment.

We ask that you instead talk to the Learn to swim Coordinator or deck supervisor for any feedback.

Can my child do back-to-back lessons?

We do not encourage this within our swim program, this is because the child simply will not benefit from this and will get very tired through the two sessions.
