Welcome to Boarding at St Hilda's School
Welcome to a glimpse of boarding life at St Hilda's School, Gold Coast. St Hilda's School has been offering a caring community life for boarders for almost a century. Along with our traditional intake of girls from rural Australia, we also have boarders from the local Gold Coast region and the nearby Northern Rivers region of New South Wales. Our international boarders and daughters from expatriate families contribute to our School's diversity and rich cultural fabric. St Hilda's School accepts boarders from Year 6 through to Year 12. We welcome casual boarders who are able to join our boarding community for a week or more, due to family travel or work commitments. Our weekend boarding program provides girls with opportunities to enjoy the many cultural and recreational outings available on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane. Weekend activities range from beach outings, social evenings with boarders of our brother school TSS, visits to shopping centres, cinemas, theme parks and the Southport Broadwater parklands.
Our boarding school is made up of two boarding precincts: McCulloch-Whitby for Years 6 to 10 under the guidance of Deputy Director of Boarding Mrs Alison Mazey and Darragh for Years 11 and 12 under the guidance of Director of Boarding Mrs Gayle Churchill. Boarders live in horizontal House structures according to their age and year level. All Years 6, 7 and 8 boarders live in McCulloch House, while Years 9 and 10 girls live together in Whitby House. Year 11 students reside in twin-share accommodation in Darragh House and Year 12 boarders live in single rooms in Darragh House.
Gayle Churchill and Alison Mazey, who live on-site, touch base with the students in their houses each day and are available to be contacted by phone through the day and after school in order to establish and maintain positive communication links with our boarding families. They work collaboratively with the team of Boarding Staff who care for the girls within a warm and secure home environment.
It is our hope that the boarders at St Hilda's School will develop lifelong friendships, while enjoying the support and good humour of those around them. We strive to help our boarders develop skills that will equip them for independent living when they leave the security of school life.
Keeping in Touch Parents can call their daughters on the following numbers (telephones for boarders to receive calls) # McCulloch House – Years 6, 7, 8: Incoming Phone Numbers 07-5577 7300 # Whitby House – Years 9, 10: Incoming Phone Numbers 07-5577 7381 # Darragh House - Years 11 and 12 boarders use mobile phones and Skype.
