TSS Sony Foundation Camp

For the past two years, St Hilda’s School girls in Years 11 and 12 have joined their counterparts from The Southport School to participate in the TSS Sony Foundation Children’s Holiday Camp.

The camp, held annually for four days in the September holidays, provides an enriching experience for students to work with young people with special needs. In the roles of companions and assistant companions, the Years 11 and 12 students support the young people to enjoy fun holiday activities in a residential setting at TSS. The camp also provides much needed respite to parents and daily carers.

For the older students, the experience of caring or assisting the young people is profound:

When told that the TSS Sony Camp would be a life-changing experience, I did not register the impact this statement would soon have on me. However, after four days of caring for a child with Spina Bifida and bound to a wheelchair for life, I realised that my life and indeed my perspective on how I go about my every day, were completely changed for the better. I don’t endeavour to sound cliché when I say at the TSS Sony Foundation Children’s Holiday Camp has been a once-in-a-lifetime (experience)… I am sincerely thankful for the opportunity to undergo such a worthwhile event.
